What?
Covered genres - Recount / Narrative / Report / Persuasive / Poetry / Script / Speeches / Letters
Don’t think we are teaching a lot of new stuff. Children have an idea of what different genres include but not the specifics. We use display of genres (not school given) in modelling book. Children can refer to it and be directed to it when using it during the year.
Own choice writing - using different motivations - pictures / videos / dogo news - sometimes directed with genre / sometimes own choice genre.
Using computer for writing - children can feel if haven’t published it on computer then don’t feel it is finished / engagement is higher / using speak onto computer has increased amount of work being output / each piece of writing published start on computer / writing in books first - allows some editing process / children can go onto other pages that they shouldn’t be on.
Conferencing - try to do with each time do a piece / easy to do editing / suggestions online - giving feedforward / feedback /
Setting goals - difficult to get some children to take ownership of their goals and make improvements. Children know what they should be doing but don’t seem to want to take responsibility. Highlighting area where they have achieved goal e.g where used description.
Audience - send work
home to parents?? / attach writing to class sites for others to look at / read publishing to other classes / publishing to Upstart / Toitoi /
So What?
Parents have difficulty signing diaries so will they look at writing??
Audience for writing may be another class / year group
Goal setting - difficulties getting the children to take responsibility for taking own goals - are we overloading children - sometimes they have a personal goal / goal for the type of genre / goal being taught. Have to let some stuff go to focus on other areas.
Parents models - not using punctuation or correct spelling / media models / technology - not providing good models or providing options to use / text language / books that they are reading - coming into writing.
School wide direction with writing / input from Learning Matters regarding spelling programme in classroom.

Standardised outline for genre across syndicate.
Class book each term that is published by Snapfish - collection of best work within class - funded by syndicate budget
Buddy class to make Narrative stories for.
Claim it / Cite it / Cement it - resource - Donna to look at and share next year
Goal setting - set goals for most of class / individual for some children - more discussion next year.
Literacy Progressions - in kidspeak - use at the front of their books as a way to monitor what children can do.
